Month In Review: September 2021

monthly recaps; including life updates, upcoming, and book hauls

I haven't done one of these posts in a looooong time, but I posted a bit this month, and I've read a lot and have some upcoming posts planned so I find it particularly relevant again!

Life Updates

Life has been so busy these last couple of months! My last update was almost a year ago, when I hadn't even graduated from my master's program yet. Since then I graduated in December of 2020 and started working as a Marketing Specialist in June of 2021. I love my new job, but working a traditional 9-5 has given me less time to blog compared to when I was in school. I've still been pretty active over on bookstagram, but it's a goal of mine to start posting regularly on the blog again soon.

Daughter of the Moon Goddess by Sue Lynn Tan

How gorgeous is this cover?? Daughter of the Moon Goddess is my first 2022 ARC. I'm about halfway through and it's a very rich Chinese Fantasy inspired by the mythology and legend of Chang'e,

the moon goddess.

The Marvelous by Claire Kann

I'm actually almost done with the audiobook of The Marvelous! I'm at about 70% done. This one has a really cool concept: users of an app are invited to the app creator's house to compete in a mystery game for money. It kind of reminds me of The Westing Game, except contemporary and with a diverse cast. I will say that with such a large cast of characters, I recommend reading over listening to this one.

monthly recaps; including life updates, upcoming, and book hauls

I haven't done one of these posts in a looooong time, but I posted a bit this month, and I've read a lot and have some upcoming posts planned so I find it particularly relevant again!

Life Updates

Hey everyone! Wow, what a busy month it has been. I have exactly two weeks left of graduate school and it's making me both excited and nervous. It's hard to believe after years and years of schooling that it's almost over. I'll have to start looking for a job soon! In the meantime, I have to focus on my finals. My most exciting and nerve-wracking final is a paper I'm writing on graphic narratives and graphic narrative form. I'm nervous because I don't have much practice with writing about drawn images (my specialties are in English Literature and Film Analysis) so this is outside of (but near) my wheel-house. I'm going to talk about comics, graphic novels, and manga as subsections of the medium of graphic narrative and have been re-reading Death Note in preparation for my last paper.

I'm actually giving the whole 12 volume series a re-read to write a paper on it.

Month in Review: July 2017

I've decided to start doing monthly recaps; including life updates, upcoming, and book hauls (no more Stacking the Shelves).

Life Updates

Well, as evident by this late recap post, I've been busy this week! The beginning of July was a week in the car crossing the country, and a week in California. The last couple weeks have been me starting a new job back on the East Coast! I've gotten my first book crate- I went with UnicornCrate- and I absolutely loved it. I also purchased The Literary Boyfriend box for the month of September which is Percy Jackson themed. I'm super excited for those to be packed and shipped! Miranda still has a couple September boxes left and the code FIRSTWRITE10 will get you 10% off your purchase!

Last month was me freaking out about grad school applications and I submitted all my things on August 1st! Now I just have to stress out about being accepted...

Month in Review: June 2017

I've decided to start doing monthly recaps; including life updates, upcoming, and book hauls (no more Stacking the Shelves).

Life Updates

This month has been me joining Instagram and becoming a rep for Literary Scents. Literary Scents is a super cute bookish candle and tea shop. You'll find me taking cute pictures of some of Miranda's products over on my instagram and the code FIRSTWRITE10 will get you 10% off your purchases! Guys- her tea literally sparkles. That's right, not only is the tea flavored and themed around your favorite books and characters, it also is full of food grade GLITTER. Perfect to accompany you on your next book read!

I've also been freaking out about grad school applications (whoop whoop), as well as figuring out my internship for next semester and trying to meet up with high school friends for the short time I will be at my parent's. This weekend marks the beginning of a road trip and my return back to campus so I'll be MIA blog-post wise the next two weeks or so as I will not be bring my laptop on the roadtrip.
